When to Visit Marmaris: A Local’s Month-by-Month Guide to Weather, Crowds and Prices

Ask me the best month to come and I will answer with a question: what do you want from the trip? If it is warm sea and long swims, the answer is different from someone who wants to walk to Amos without melting, or a family that needs every boat trip and water park open.
After nine years here, I have seen the town in every mood: the empty, rain-washed promenade in January, the first gulets being repainted in March, the crowded beaches of August and my favourite time of all, the soft light and warm sea of September. This guide walks through each month honestly, with climate averages, what is open and what a hotel night costs.
The short answer
- Best overall: June and September. Warm sea, everything open, fewer crowds and lower prices than peak summer.
- Warmest sea: August and September (26-27°C).
- Best for walking and sightseeing: April, May and October.
- Cheapest: March, then January, February, April and December.
- Liveliest: July and August, when Bar Street is at full volume.
Weather by month
These are long-term climate averages, rounded, not a forecast for a particular week. “Rain days” means days with some rainfall, not full days of rain.
| Month | Day high | Night low | Sea temp. | Rain days | Sunshine (hrs/day) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 13°C | 5°C | 18°C | 15 | 5 |
| February | 14°C | 5°C | 17°C | 13 | 6 |
| March | 16°C | 7°C | 16°C | 10 | 7 |
| April | 20°C | 10°C | 17°C | 8 | 9 |
| May | 25°C | 13°C | 19°C | 5 | 10 |
| June | 30°C | 17°C | 22°C | 4 | 13 |
| July | 33°C | 20°C | 25°C | 7 | 14 |
| August | 33°C | 20°C | 27°C | 6 | 13 |
| September | 30°C | 17°C | 26°C | 4 | 11 |
| October | 25°C | 13°C | 24°C | 6 | 8 |
| November | 19°C | 9°C | 21°C | 9 | 6 |
| December | 15°C | 6°C | 19°C | 15 | 5 |
Two things the table does not show. First, the sea lags behind the air: in May the days feel like summer, but the water is still a brisk 19°C, while in October the air has cooled and the sea is still warmer than in June. Second, summer rain days are usually short thunderstorms or a passing shower, not a washed-out day.
Hotel prices by month (2026)
Hotel demand follows the weather closely. These are average nightly base rates for two adults in commonly viewed Marmaris hotels, before taxes and fees:
| Month | Avg. per night (USD) | Approx. TL |
|---|---|---|
| January | $66 | ~3,250 TL |
| February | $66 | ~3,250 TL |
| March | $55 | ~2,700 TL |
| April | $61 | ~3,000 TL |
| May | $72 | ~3,550 TL |
| June | $111 | ~5,500 TL |
| July | $144 | ~7,150 TL |
| August | $140 | ~6,950 TL |
| September | $123 | ~6,100 TL |
| October | $95 | ~4,700 TL |
| November | $75 | ~3,700 TL |
| December | $66 | ~3,250 TL |
July is the most expensive month, at twice the price of a night in May. June gives you almost the same beach weather as July for roughly 23% less, and October costs about a quarter less than September.
It is not only hotels. Bar and club prices, boat trips and beach clubs are at their highest from mid-July to the end of August; in June and September, many of those prices are roughly 15-20% lower.

Month-by-month guide
January
The quietest month of the year. Expect daytime highs around 13°C, cold nights and plenty of rain. The sea, at about 18°C, is for the brave only. Most beach businesses, boat trips and many hotels are closed, but the town still lives its normal life: local restaurants, the weekly market and the marina are all there, and on a clear day the views across the bay are spectacular. Come for a quiet, cheap break, not a beach holiday.
February
Still winter, though mild by northern European standards. Bright, crisp days alternate with rain, and evenings are chilly. Pack layers and a waterproof jacket. It is a good time for long lunches and walks when the weather allows.
March
The cheapest month for hotels, and the first signs of spring. Highs reach about 16°C, the hills turn green and wildflowers appear along the peninsula roads. Rain is still likely. You will see boats being repainted and restaurants getting ready for the season; a few boat trips start at the very end of the month, but do not count on a full programme.
April
A lovely month for sightseeing. Days are around 20°C with longer daylight, perfect for the castle, the old town and the ancient sites like Amos and Loryma before the heat arrives. The sea, at about 17°C, still feels cold to most swimmers, so choose a hotel with a heated pool if swimming matters. The first direct holiday flights from the UK to Dalaman usually start in April.
May
One of my favourite months. Highs of around 25°C, little rain, everything turning green and the town busy but not crowded. Atlantis Water Park opens at the start of the month, and boat trips run daily. The sea is still fresh at 19°C, but plenty of visitors swim happily. Hotel prices are still close to spring levels, averaging about $72 (3,550 TL) a night.
June
My top pick for most families and couples. Days reach about 30°C, the sea warms to 22°C and the evenings are long and warm. Everything is open, from boat trips and beach clubs to Bar Street, but the July crowds have not yet arrived. Hotel rates jump to about $111 (5,500 TL) a night on average, so book early if your dates are fixed, especially for the second half of the month.
July
Hot, bright and busy. Highs average 33°C, nights rarely drop below 20°C, and the sea is perfect for long swims at 25°C. This is the classic summer holiday: full beaches, packed boat trips and Bar Street at its loudest. It is also the most expensive month, with hotels averaging about $144 (7,150 TL) a night. Do your sightseeing early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and book excursions a day or two ahead.
August
The hottest and busiest month, with the warmest sea of the year at about 27°C. Families from Turkey and across Europe fill the resorts, roads and restaurants. If you love a lively atmosphere, this is your month; if you prefer space on the beach, go early in the morning or head out by boat to the coves. During hot, dry spells, forest roads and picnic areas may be closed because of fire risk.
September
The month I recommend most often. The sea is still at its warmest (around 26°C), the air drops to a more comfortable 30°C, the crowds thin out once European schools go back, and prices start to fall. Boat trips, beach clubs and most restaurants stay open all month. If you want a summer holiday without the peak-season intensity, this is it.
October
Early October still feels like summer: highs around 25°C and a sea at 24°C, warmer than in June. It is a wonderful time for swimming, walking up to the castle and driving the peninsula. From the middle of the month, seasonal businesses begin to close, the museum switches to winter hours (closing at 17:30 from 16 October) and the weather becomes more changeable. Atlantis Water Park closes at the end of the month, and most boats stop running by early November.
November
The town settles into its quiet season. Highs of around 19°C, cooler nights and more frequent rain. Many hotels and seasonal businesses close, and direct charter flights from the UK stop, so most visitors connect through Istanbul. It suits people who enjoy walks, local life and relaxed meals rather than a resort routine. The sea, at 21°C, is still swimmable on a sunny day if you are hardy.
December
The wettest and coolest part of the year, with highs around 15°C and about 15 days with some rain. There are still bright, pleasant days, but beaches and boat trips are not a realistic plan. The Rhodes ferry runs only a few times a week in winter. Come for a quiet, inexpensive stay and check opening hours for restaurants and attractions.

Local planning tips
- Check the forecast a few days before you travel. Averages help you choose a month but cannot tell you whether your week will be windy.
- Book early for July and August. Accommodation and popular excursions fill up; compare cancellation terms as well as price.
- In spring and late autumn, confirm what is open. Beach clubs, boat operators and village buses run reduced schedules outside summer.
- Plan around the heat in midsummer. Walk and sightsee in the morning or late afternoon, and carry water.
- Respect fire warnings. Never light a fire or throw a cigarette in the forest during the dry months.
