About Marmaris Journey

Welcome to Marmaris Journey, an independent, English-language travel guide to Marmaris and the coast around it, from İçmeler and Turunç to the Bozburun peninsula, Dalyan and Datça. It is written by a small team of people who live here or know the region well, for travellers who want honest, practical and up-to-date information before they arrive.

We started the site because the same questions kept coming up from friends and visitors: How do I get here from Dalaman? Which beach suits my family? Is this boat trip worth the money? How much should a beer cost on Bar Street? Most of the answers online were outdated, written by people who had never been here, or quietly built around whatever paid the highest commission. We wanted to do better.

Our mission

Our aim is simple: to help you plan a better holiday in Marmaris with information you can actually rely on.

  • Local knowledge first. Our guides are based on living in Marmaris and visiting the places we write about, not on rewriting other websites.
  • Real prices, clearly dated. Every guide shows the prices we checked, in Turkish lira with an approximate dollar equivalent, and tells you when we checked them. When prices change, we update the page.
  • Honest recommendations. We tell you what is worth your time and what is not, including the tourist traps, the overpriced menus and the boat trips that are not what the poster promises.
  • Practical over promotional. We would rather explain what to ask before booking than simply tell you to book.
  • Respect for the place. This town is our home. We encourage visitors to respect local people, protected beaches, ancient sites and the forests that make this coast so special.

Meet our writers

Serdar Taş, founder and editor

Serdar has lived in Marmaris for nine years and founded Marmaris Journey to share the kind of advice he gives friends and family when they come to visit. He writes most of our practical guides, from airport transfers and getting around to holiday costs, nightlife and safety, and he personally checks the prices and timetables that appear on the site. An optician by profession, Serdar also runs Gezimaris, a Turkish-language travel platform. As editor, he reviews every article on Marmaris Journey before it is published.

Olga Tash, travel writer

Olga is a travel writer whose first-hand guides also appear on our sister site Gezimaris. She brings a traveller’s eye to Marmaris Journey, writing about the experiences that make a holiday here memorable: the old town, the markets, local food, beaches and the small details that first-time visitors want to know. Her writing is always based on places she has visited herself.

Abdullah Polat, contributor

Abdullah contributes to our excursion and day trip guides, covering boat trips, Dalyan, Sedir Island and the routes around the bay. He focuses on the practical side: what each tour really includes, how long the day takes and the questions worth asking before you pay.

Sercan Hazine, contributor

Metin writes about the history and heritage of the region, from Marmaris Castle and the old town to the ancient cities of Kaunos, Knidos, Loryma, Hydas and Amos. He helps readers understand the stories behind the places they visit and how to explore them responsibly.

How we research and update our guides

  • We go there. Our guides are based on our own visits and life in Marmaris. Where we have not done something ourselves, we say so.
  • We check official sources. Museum tickets and opening hours come from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism; bus fares and timetables from the municipal transport operator; taxi tariffs from the official municipal tariff; ferry fares from the operators themselves.
  • We date our prices. Every guide shows when it was last updated and which exchange rate we used for dollar conversions.
  • We update regularly. We review our main guides before and during each summer season, and whenever readers tell us something has changed.
  • We correct mistakes. If you spot an error or an outdated price, please tell us. We fix confirmed errors quickly and update the date on the page.

Independence and how we make money

Everything on this site is free to read. To cover our costs, some pages include links to tours on our Marmaris tours page, which are provided through partner booking platforms. If you book through these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Commissions never decide what we recommend. We do not accept payment for positive reviews, and if we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labelled as such. Our editorial opinions are our own.
